Life Along the A24 High Street

Colliers Wood is built along the A24, which runs through the area as the High Street on its way between Morden and Tooting. It is a busy road with buses, delivery vans and commuters, and the junction by the station is one of the busiest in the borough.

The station is on the Northern line, so lots of people here travel into central London by Tube. Around it are shops, cafés and the big retail parks that line the road towards Merton.

For pickups on the High Street, we often use a side road nearby to avoid stopping in the bus lane. Tell us where you are and we will suggest a safe spot.

From our base in North Cheam, Colliers Wood is typically about 5 miles away up the A24 through Morden. Off peak, the drive takes around 18 to 25 minutes.

Merton Abbey Mills and the River Wandle

The River Wandle runs along the western side of Colliers Wood. Beside it, Merton Abbey Mills is a collection of old mill buildings with a craft market, cafés and a riverside pub. It has a long history of textile printing, and the old water wheel still turns.

Wandle Park and the Wandle Trail make it a great place for a walk or a bike ride. We drop off and pick up at the mills, the park entrances and along Merantun Way.

Retail Parks and Big Shops

Colliers Wood has some of the biggest shops in this part of south London. The Tandem Centre and the retail parks around Merantun Way and Christchurch Road house supermarkets and large stores.

People often book a cab for the trip home with heavy shopping, flat pack furniture or a new TV. Tell us if you have big items and we will send an MPV with enough room.

St George's Hospital in Tooting

St George's Hospital is just up the road in Tooting, on Blackshaw Road. It is one of the largest hospitals in London and a major trauma centre. Many Colliers Wood residents are treated there, work there or visit family on the wards.

We drive to St George's at all hours. For planned appointments, book ahead and we will drop you close to the right entrance. We can wait or come back at a set time. For shift workers at the hospital, we can set up regular early or late bookings.

The Northern Line and Late Nights

The Northern line gets you into town fast, but it can be packed in the rush hour and limited late at night. If you are coming back late from central London, or travelling with luggage, a cab from the station or straight from town is easier.

Book a pickup at Colliers Wood station or anywhere in central London. We run 24 hours a day.

Most of our work here is local and practical.

  • Station runs to Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon and Tooting Broadway.
  • Hospital trips to St George's in Tooting and St Helier in Carshalton.
  • Shopping trips to the retail parks and the Tandem Centre.
  • School runs across Merton and Wandsworth.
  • Visits to friends and family in Mitcham, Wimbledon and Tooting.

Airport and Station Transfers

From Colliers Wood, central and east London are close. We run London City Airport cabs for business trips, plus Heathrow taxis and Gatwick minicabs. For trains, we drive you to any London terminus, such as Victoria Station.

Hotels and Visitors

Have family or business visitors coming to stay? We can collect them from a London station and take them to a hotel nearby, or bring them to your home. Our hotel transfer taxi service handles all of this at a fixed fare.

Tooting Next Door

Tooting starts just north of Colliers Wood, along the same A24. Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec have busy markets, a huge range of restaurants, and the open space of Tooting Common with its famous lido.

Lots of our Colliers Wood customers book us for short trips into Tooting, especially for evening meals and late nights out. We drop you on the main road or a side street close to where you want to be, and collect you later.

Moving Into a New Flat

Colliers Wood has seen lots of new homes built in recent years, including flats along the High Street and near the station. Moving in often means a few car loads of boxes, bags and odds and ends.

Our MPVs and 8 seater minibus have plenty of room for that kind of job. Tell us roughly what you need to move and the two addresses, and we will give you a fixed fare. It is not a removal service, but for the smaller items it saves a lot of trips.

The A24 at Peak Times

The A24 through Colliers Wood is one of the busiest roads in Merton. Between the station junction and the turn for Merantun Way, traffic can queue in the morning and again from about 4pm. Bus lanes add to the squeeze.

Our drivers know the timings. For a booked pickup they will often come in via a side road to avoid sitting in the queue, and they will suggest a pickup spot that does not mean stopping in a bus lane. For trips heading south, Merantun Way usually moves faster than the High Street.

Neighbouring Areas We Cover

Colliers Wood sits between several areas we serve. Mitcham is just to the east, Merton Park is to the south west, and Wimbledon is a short drive west. Our areas we cover page lists every area.
