Around Fair Green and the Town Centre
Mitcham town centre is built around Fair Green, a busy pedestrian square with market stalls, shops and bus stops. The A217 London Road runs north to south through the area, and roads from Croydon, Streatham and Morden all meet nearby. It makes for a lot of traffic, especially in the afternoon.
Our drivers know the area well. For pickups near Fair Green, the side roads off London Road and Upper Green East are often easier than the main road. Tell us the shop or bus stop you are near and we will suggest the right spot.
From our base in North Cheam, Mitcham town centre is typically 5 to 6 miles away along the A217 through Rose Hill. Off peak the drive takes around 18 to 25 minutes.
The Cricket Green and Old Mitcham
Mitcham has some real history. The Cricket Green, south of the town centre, is said to be one of the oldest cricket grounds in the world still in use, and matches are still played there in summer. Around it are old houses, the Burn Bullock pub and the Vestry Hall.
Further west is the Canons, a historic house with a park and pond, and the area known as Three Kings Piece with its own pond. These are lovely spots to visit, and we drop off and pick up at all of them.
Mitcham Common
Mitcham Common is a huge open space on the eastern side of the area, stretching towards Croydon. It has grassland, woods, ponds and a golf course, and it is popular with walkers and dog owners.
The roads across it, including Croydon Road and Commonside, can be quiet in the evening and busy at peak times. We cover pickups from all the roads around the common, including Pollards Hill and Beddington Lane.
Trams, Trains and Stations
Mitcham has good transport links, but they do not always go where you want, and they are not always easy with bags.
- Mitcham Junction station has Southern and Thameslink trains, plus a tram stop.
- Mitcham Eastfields station, on the eastern side, runs trains into central London.
- Tram stops at Mitcham, Belgrave Walk and Phipps Bridge link the area to Wimbledon and Croydon.
We drive people to these stops in bad weather or with luggage. For longer rail trips, we go straight to the London termini, such as Victoria Station and London Bridge.
Local Trips Across CR4
Most of our Mitcham work is local and practical.
- Shopping runs to Fair Green, the big supermarkets and the retail parks towards Purley Way.
- Hospital trips to St Helier Hospital in Carshalton and St George's in Tooting.
- GP, dentist and clinic visits around the area.
- Rides to the mosque, church or temple for prayers and festivals.
- Family visits across Merton, Sutton and Croydon.
Every journey has a fixed fare agreed at booking.
Big Families and Group Trips
Mitcham has many large families and close communities. Weddings, Eid gatherings, Diwali visits and family parties often mean moving a lot of people at once.
Our 7 seater taxi and 8 seater minibus take up to eight passengers, so the whole family can arrive together. For smaller groups, the 6 seater taxi seats six. Book early for busy festival dates.
Airport Transfers from Mitcham
Mitcham is well placed for trips across London. We run London City Airport cabs for business travellers heading east, plus Heathrow taxis and Gatwick minicabs for holidays.
Book with your flight number for return trips and we will track your flight.
Mitcham Fair
Every August, Mitcham Fair comes to Three Kings Piece. It is one of the oldest travelling fairs in the country, with a history said to go back centuries. Rides, stalls and crowds fill the area for a few days.
Roads around the fair get very busy, and parking nearby is almost impossible. Book a cab and we will drop you as close as the road rules allow, then pick you up at an agreed spot when you are done.
Pollards Hill and Eastfields
On the eastern side of Mitcham, Pollards Hill and Eastfields have their own shops, schools and community centres. Mitcham Eastfields station gives them a direct rail link into central London.
We cover all of these roads, and we often take people from here to Mitcham town centre, Streatham and Croydon. Short local trips get the same fixed fare system as longer ones.
Trips into Croydon
Croydon is a short drive south east of Mitcham, along the A236 and through Mitcham Common. Many people head there for the big shopping centres, offices and East Croydon station, which has fast trains to the south coast.
We run Mitcham to Croydon trips at all hours, including late nights after a show or a meal.
Pick the Right Car

Luggage figures are a typical guide. Tell us your bag count when you book and we will match the car.
Busy Junctions to Know About
Mitcham has a few junctions that catch people out. The roads around Fair Green split and merge in ways that confuse visitors. The Cricket Green junction is tight, and the crossing by Mitcham Junction station can hold traffic when trams and trains pass.
Our drivers handle these every day. They know when London Road is moving and when it is better to come in from Commonside or Streatham Road. Tell us where you are going and the time you need to arrive, and we will plan around them.
Neighbouring Areas We Cover
Mitcham sits between several areas we serve. To the north west is Colliers Wood, and to the south is Carshalton. Morden and Merton Park are a short drive west. See our areas we cover page for the full list.
