Why Cheam Travellers Take a Car to Euston

Euston is on the far side of London from Cheam. By public transport, you need a train into Victoria and then the Victoria line north, usually with luggage and a crowd. It works, but it is tiring before you have even found your platform.

A car keeps it simple. The driver collects you from your road in Cheam, North Cheam or Cheam Village, puts the bags in the boot, and drops you at the station entrance. You walk in with time to buy a coffee.

This matters most for big trips. A family heading to the Lake District. A student moving into halls in Manchester with a car load of boxes. A couple travelling up to Glasgow for a wedding. These are the journeys where the first leg sets the mood.

The Drive from Cheam to Euston

The usual route takes the A24 north through Morden and Tooting to Clapham, crosses the river at Vauxhall, then runs past Victoria and Hyde Park Corner. From there Park Lane and Marylebone Road lead east to Euston Road and the station.

Typical distance is about 14 to 15 miles. Off peak, the drive takes around 55 to 70 minutes. Weekday rush hours can stretch it past 80 minutes, so we plan pickup times carefully for trains you cannot miss.

Euston Road marks the northern edge of the Congestion Charge zone, and most routes from Cheam pass through the zone on the way. During charging hours the charge applies, and your quote will show how it is handled.

Trains from Euston

Avanti West Coast runs fast trains from Euston to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Lancaster, the Lake District and Glasgow. London Northwestern Railway serves Milton Keynes, Northampton and Birmingham with stopping trains. The London Overground also runs from here to Watford.

The station is busy and the departure boards can change quickly. Give yourself enough time to find your platform, especially if you have a reserved seat in a particular coach.

The Caledonian Sleeper to Scotland

Euston is also home to the Caledonian Sleeper. It leaves late in the evening for Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness and Fort William, and you wake up in Scotland.

It is a brilliant way to travel, but it departs at a time when the easy rail links from Cheam are winding down. We are open 24 hours, so a late evening drop for the sleeper is no trouble. We will plan the pickup so you arrive with time to check in at the lounge. Check the current departure time when you book your tickets.

University College Hospital and Euston Road

University College Hospital stands on Euston Road, a short walk west of the station. Patients from all over London are referred there for specialist care. The Wellcome Collection and the British Library are also close by.

If you have an appointment at UCH, a car makes it much easier, especially if you are not feeling your best. We drop you close to the entrance and can wait or come back at a set time. Let us know when you book.

Business Trips to Birmingham and Manchester

Euston is the main gateway for business travel to Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Plenty of Cheam residents catch an early train for a meeting and come back on the evening service.

A car each way makes these long days easier. You can catch up on emails in the back on the way in, and you do not have to face the Tube after a full day of meetings. For companies, we can set up regular bookings for staff who travel often. Every trip has a fixed fare and a clear confirmation for expense claims.

Camden and Regent's Park Nearby

Euston is a short hop from some of north London's best known spots. Camden Market is about a mile north up Eversholt Street and Camden High Street. Regent's Park and London Zoo are a little to the west.

If you are making a day of it, we can drop you at the market or the park gates instead of the station. Then we collect you later from wherever you end up.

Coming Home Late from the North

Evening trains from the north often arrive at Euston late, and delays are common on long routes. After a few hours on a train, the last thing you want is a crowded Tube and a change at Victoria.

Book your pickup with the train number. We track it, so if it is running behind, the driver knows. Expect a calm, quiet drive back to Cheam with the roads emptier than in the day.

Pickup and Drop-Off Points

Euston has been changing a lot due to major building works around the station. Access roads and entrances can move. We agree a spot with you in advance, and our drivers check the latest layout. Places that usually work well include:

  • Euston Road, outside the front of the station by Euston Square Gardens.
  • Eversholt Street, along the eastern side of the station.
  • Melton Street, on the western side.

Arriving from the north? Send us your train time and coach number. If you are late, we wait.

Moving Students and Big Loads

Every September, lots of Cheam and Sutton families take children to universities in the Midlands and the North. Many go by train from Euston, with someone to help carry the boxes onto the train.

If that is you, book a bigger car. The MPV holds far more than a saloon, and the 8 seater minibus can take a serious amount of luggage. Tell us what you are carrying and we will match the vehicle.

Waiting for Platform Announcements

Euston is famous for late platform announcements. Passengers crowd the concourse watching the boards, then rush to the platform when it appears. With heavy bags, that rush is stressful.

Arriving in good time helps. If you are in the station with 20 to 30 minutes to spare, you can find a seat, grab a coffee and be ready when your platform is called. We plan the pickup with that in mind, so you are not adding a tight drive to a tight platform dash.
