Sutton Town Centre and the Gyratory Roads

Sutton is the big town next door to Cheam, and a lot of our work goes in and out of it every day. The town centre is built around the long pedestrian High Street, with the St Nicholas Centre and Times Square shopping centres along it. Cars cannot use most of the High Street, so drivers circle the town on the gyratory, a one way loop made up of Throwley Way and St Nicholas Way.

If you have ever tried to find a pickup spot here, you will know it can be confusing. Our drivers know where to stop. For shoppers, the side roads near the top of the High Street and the area by the station usually work best. Tell us the shop or building you are near and we will suggest a sensible spot.

From our base, Sutton town centre is typically 2 miles away along the A232 Cheam Road. Off peak it takes around 8 to 12 minutes. At school times and in the late afternoon it can take longer.

Sutton station sits at the southern end of the High Street, close to where it meets Brighton Road. Southern and Thameslink trains run from here into Victoria, London Bridge and through the City, and out towards Epsom, Dorking and West Croydon. West Sutton and Sutton Common stations are smaller stops on the Thameslink loop through Wimbledon.

Many people book us for the short ride to Sutton station, especially early in the morning, late at night or with luggage. We drop you right by the station entrance or on the nearest side road, depending on traffic.

Arriving at Sutton by train? Send us the train time and we will be waiting. Late night arrivals are no problem, as we run 24 hours.

Royal Marsden and Hospital Trips

The Royal Marsden Hospital on Downs Road in south Sutton is one of the best known cancer hospitals in the world. Patients come from far and wide, and many families in the borough go there for treatment or visits.

We understand that these trips can be hard. Our drivers are patient and will drop you as close to the entrance as possible. We can wait, or come back at a set time to take you home. If you need regular trips, tell us the days and times and we will set up repeat bookings.

St Helier Hospital is a short drive east, on Wrythe Lane in Carshalton. We cover trips there too, as well as to clinics and surgeries all over Sutton.

Belmont, Sutton Common and the Roads Around

Sutton is more than its town centre. To the south, Belmont runs along the A217 Brighton Road, with its own station and quiet residential roads. To the north, Sutton Common Road leads towards Rose Hill and Morden. West Sutton and the area around Gander Green Lane, where Sutton United play, sit between the town and Cheam.

We cover all of these. Typical drive times from our North Cheam office are 10 to 15 minutes to most of SM1 and SM2, though rush hour on Brighton Road and around the Angel Hill junction can slow things down.

Local Runs Around Sutton

Not every trip is a long one. Lots of Sutton customers book us for short local journeys.

  • Shopping trips to the High Street and back with bags.
  • Visits to the Secombe Theatre on Cheam Road for an evening show.
  • Doctor and dental appointments around the borough.
  • Nights out in the town centre bars and restaurants, with a safe ride home.
  • Trips to Manor Park, Sutton Green or the leisure centre.

Every trip gets a fixed fare, even the short ones. No meter running while you wait at lights on the gyratory.

Airport and Station Transfers from Sutton

Sutton is well placed for airport trips. The A217 runs south to the M25, which makes the drive to Gatwick from the Sutton area quick at most times of day. For long haul flights, we run Heathrow taxis from every Sutton postcode.

Catching a long distance train? We drive Sutton passengers to all the main London termini, including Victoria Station and King's Cross.

School Runs and Family Services

Sutton has many well known schools, including several grammar schools that draw pupils from across the borough. Our school run taxi service sets up regular term time pickups with TfL licensed drivers and child seats on request.

Need a bigger car for the family? Our 6 seater and 7 seater vehicles cover Sutton too.

Sutton After Dark

Sutton town centre has a busy evening scene, with bars, restaurants and the cinema near the top of the High Street. Late at night, it is not always easy to find a ride home, and walking back to Cheam or Belmont in the dark is not much fun.

Book your return before you go out, or call when you are ready to leave. Our drivers will meet you at an agreed spot just off the High Street. We run all night, every night, so last orders are never a problem.

Neighbouring Areas We Cover

Sutton borders several areas we serve every day. Head east and you reach Carshalton, with its ponds and village feel. North east lies Mitcham. To the west, of course, is Cheam itself, home to our office. Our areas we cover page has the full list.

Sutton United Match Days

Sutton United play at the stadium on Gander Green Lane, between Sutton and Cheam. On match days, the surrounding roads fill up and parking is tight.

Book a cab to the ground and agree a pickup spot a short walk away for after the final whistle. It is far easier than circling for a space.

Why Sutton Customers Choose Us

We are not a big national app. We are a local firm with drivers who live and work in this part of south London. That means drivers who know that the gyratory runs one way, that parking near the Marsden is tight, and that Brighton Road can be slow at 5pm.

It also means you can call and speak to someone who knows the area. If something changes, like a train delay or a longer appointment, we can adjust quickly. Local drivers who know these roads can find out about PCO driver jobs with us.
