Why Take a Cab When Cheam Has a Direct Train?
Fair question. Southern trains run from Cheam station straight into Victoria, so on a normal day the train is a good option. We would never pretend otherwise.
But normal days are not the ones people call us about. They call when they have two suitcases and a coach to Europe to catch. When the trains are replaced by buses on a Sunday. When an elderly parent needs to get to a hotel near Buckingham Palace Road without climbing stairs. Or when it is midnight and the last train has gone.
That is where a car from your door wins. No walk to Cheam station, no platform changes, no hauling bags through the barriers at Victoria. You sit down in North Cheam or Cheam Village and step out at the kerb in Westminster.
The Road from Cheam to Victoria
The usual route takes the A24 north through Morden, along the road through Colliers Wood and Tooting, then past Clapham Common. From there the driver heads for Vauxhall and crosses the river on Vauxhall Bridge, which drops you onto Vauxhall Bridge Road just a few minutes from the station.
Typical distance is about 11 to 12 miles. Off peak, the trip usually takes 40 to 55 minutes. In weekday rush hours it can stretch towards 70 minutes, mainly because of the stretch between Tooting and Clapham.
If the A24 is blocked, there is an alternative via the A217 through Mitcham and across to Wandsworth, then along the river to Chelsea Bridge. The driver decides on the day.
Victoria sits inside the central London Congestion Charge zone. During charging hours, the charge applies to private hire journeys. We will tell you how it is handled in your quote.
Victoria Coach Station Drops
Lots of our Victoria bookings are not for the trains at all. They are for Victoria Coach Station on Buckingham Palace Road, a short walk south west of the railway station.
National Express and the European coach lines leave from here, often very early or very late. Coaches will not wait. If you are booked on a 7am service, being dropped at the right door with ten minutes to spare matters.
Tell us your coach time and we will plan the pickup. The driver drops you on the road outside the departures side, as close as traffic rules allow.
Where We Pick You Up at Victoria
Coming home from Victoria? Victoria is busy and the forecourt is shared with buses and black cabs, so we agree a meeting point before you arrive. Common spots include:
- Buckingham Palace Road, on the side nearest the coach station.
- Wilton Road, on the eastern side of the station.
- Eccleston Bridge, above the tracks, which is quieter at busy times.
Send us your train time and the operator, and the driver will be there. If your train is late, we wait. Call us on arrival if you cannot see the car and we will guide you to it.
Trains and Lines at Victoria
Victoria is one of the busiest stations in London. Southern and Southeastern trains run from here to the south coast, Kent and Sussex. Underground, the Victoria, District and Circle lines all stop here.
For Cheam passengers it is useful as a hub. Many people use our cab to reach Victoria and then take a train to Brighton, Canterbury or the Kent coast for a day out or a family visit.
Travelling with Children or Older Relatives
Victoria can feel overwhelming with small children. The concourse is packed, the Tube entrances are crowded and the lifts are not always where you expect. Taking a car to the kerb removes most of that.
Child seats are available on request, so tell us your child's age when you book. For older passengers, the driver can pull in as close to the entrance as the road allows and help with bags to the door. If someone uses a folding wheelchair, let us know and we will send a car with enough boot space.
It is the small kindnesses that make the trip. A driver who waits a minute longer while someone gets settled, and who does not rush them out at the other end.
Late Night Pickups from Victoria
The last Southern trains back towards Cheam leave fairly early compared with the night life in Westminster. After a show in the West End or a late dinner near Belgravia, you might find yourself with no direct train home.
That is a very common call for us. Book your return before you go out, or ring us from Victoria when you are ready. A driver will collect you from an agreed spot and have you back on your own road in Cheam in under an hour on a quiet night.
Pick the Right Car for the Trip
How many people, and how much luggage? Those two answers decide the car.

Luggage figures are a typical guide. Tell us your bag count when you book and we will match the car.
A saloon handles most single or couple trips to the station. For a family with holiday bags, the 6 seater MPV gives you breathing room. Groups heading off on a coach tour together can share the 8 seater and arrive as one.

Local Pickups Along the Way
Not starting in Cheam? We collect from anywhere along the A24 corridor, including Colliers Wood and Mitcham, plus Morden and Merton Park. If you need to pick up a friend on the way, just add a stop to the booking. It will show in your fixed fare before you confirm.
Tips for a Smooth Victoria Run
A few simple habits make the trip easier.
- Book the car at least a day ahead for early coaches and trains.
- Allow extra time on Friday evenings and before bank holidays, when Westminster traffic peaks.
- Keep your ticket or booking reference on your phone in case the driver asks which entrance you need.
- If you are meeting someone off a train, send us the platform once it is shown on the board.
None of this is complicated. It just saves those last few minutes of panic.
