Heading West? Start at Your Front Door

Paddington is the station for the West Country, South Wales and the Thames Valley. Great Western Railway trains leave for Reading, Oxford, Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Exeter, Plymouth and all the way to Penzance.

From Cheam, there is no simple rail link. You would need a train to Victoria, then the Tube, usually with at least one more change. With a holiday suitcase, a surfboard bag or two tired children, that is a big ask.

A car from your door is the simple answer. We collect from anywhere in Cheam, North Cheam and Cheam Village, load up and drive you to the station entrance you need.

Route and Typical Drive Time

Paddington sits north of Hyde Park, on the western edge of central London. The usual road from Cheam heads north on the A217 through Mitcham towards Tooting and Wandsworth, crosses the Thames at Wandsworth Bridge, then runs up through Fulham, Earls Court and Kensington.

Typical distance is about 13 to 15 miles. Off peak the drive takes around 50 to 65 minutes. In rush hour, allow 75 minutes or more, mainly because of the river crossings and Kensington High Street.

Paddington is just outside the central Congestion Charge zone, and our usual route stays west of it. If traffic forces a different road through the zone during charging hours, we will tell you how the charge is handled.

The Night Riviera Sleeper

Here is something many people do not know. Every week night, a sleeper train called the Night Riviera leaves Paddington late in the evening for Cornwall. You board in London, sleep in a cabin, and wake up near Penzance.

It is a lovely way to start a holiday. The trouble is the timing. It departs close to midnight, long after many of the easier train links from Cheam have wound down for the evening.

That is a perfect job for a pre-booked car. We pick you up at a sensible time, drive you across a quiet London and drop you at the station with time to settle in before boarding. Check the sleeper's current departure time when you book your tickets.

The Elizabeth Line Connection

Paddington is also a major stop on the Elizabeth line. It runs east through central London to Canary Wharf, Stratford and beyond, and west towards Reading.

Some passengers use us to reach Paddington and then take the Elizabeth line to meetings in the City or Canary Wharf. The Elizabeth line entrance is on Eastbourne Terrace, which is also one of the easiest places for us to drop you.

St Mary's Hospital Appointments

St Mary's Hospital is right next to the station on Praed Street. It is a major teaching hospital, and patients from all over London are referred there.

If you have an appointment, a car takes the stress out of the journey. The driver drops you as close to the entrance as the road allows. We can wait, or come back at a set time to bring you home to Cheam. Mention it when you book so we can price it in.

Business Travel to Reading and Bristol

Paddington is the gateway for business trips along the Thames Valley and the M4 corridor. Reading, Swindon, Bristol and Cardiff all have regular fast trains, and many firms have offices in these cities.

A car to the station makes early trains easier. You can sit back, check your notes and arrive calm. For regular travel, we can set up repeat bookings with fixed fares and confirmations for each trip.

Surfboards, Bikes and Bulky Bags

Heading to Cornwall or Devon for a surf trip or a cycling holiday? Bulky kit is hard to manage on the Tube. Our MPVs have far more room than a saloon, and the 8 seater minibus can take a lot of gear.

Tell us exactly what you are bringing when you book. Board bags, bike boxes and camping gear all need space, and we would rather send the right car the first time. Check with your train operator too, as space for bikes and large items on trains is limited and may need a reservation.

Little Venice and Hyde Park

Paddington is close to some lovely parts of west London. Little Venice, where the canals meet, is a short walk north. Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens are just south of the station.

If you are not catching a train at all and just fancy a day out, we can drop you at the park or by the canal and pick you up later.

Drop-Off and Pickup Points

Paddington is surrounded by busy roads, so we agree the exact spot with you. These usually work well.

  • Eastbourne Terrace, by the Elizabeth line entrance on the western side.
  • Praed Street, on the main road along the front of the station.
  • London Street, at the eastern side near the main concourse.
  • Sheldon Square, behind the station in the Paddington Basin area, which is often quieter.

For arrivals, send us your train time and coach number. If the train is late, we see it and wait.

Travelling with Pets

Lots of people take their dog on holiday to Devon or Cornwall, and GWR trains allow small numbers of pets. Getting your dog to Paddington by Tube is much harder. Some lines get very crowded and escalators are tricky with a big dog.

Our pet friendly taxi service is made for this. Tell us about your pet when you book and we will send a driver happy to take them.

Family Holidays in the West Country

Every summer, families from Cheam and Sutton head west for holidays in Devon and Cornwall. Many travel by train from Paddington to avoid long hours on the M5 and A30.

The tricky bit is getting to Paddington with the whole family and a week of luggage. A car from your front door takes care of it. Child seats are available on request, and the MPV has room for suitcases, buckets and spades. Book your return pickup at the same time, so the end of the holiday is sorted too.

A saloon is fine for one or two people with normal bags. Business travellers often pick the executive car. Families going to the coast for a week usually need the MPV. Large groups can book the 8 seater.
