Coombe Lane and the Station Area

The centre of Raynes Park is along Coombe Lane, the A238, close to the station. It has cafés, restaurants, a library and a mix of independent shops. The railway runs right through the middle, and the roads under the bridges can bottleneck at busy times.

Raynes Park station has South Western Railway trains into Waterloo and out towards Kingston, Epsom and Dorking. It is a popular commuter stop, and the roads nearby fill with traffic in the morning and evening.

For pickups, we often use a side road off Coombe Lane or Approach Road by the station. Tell us where you are and we will agree a spot.

From our office in North Cheam, Raynes Park is typically about 4 miles away through Worcester Park and Motspur Park. Off peak, the drive takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

West Barnes and Motspur Park

South of the railway, West Barnes Lane runs down towards Motspur Park. This is a quiet residential area with wide streets of family homes, and Raynes Park High School sits just to the east on Bushey Road. The level crossing on West Barnes Lane near Motspur Park station can cause short delays when the barriers are down.

Our drivers know to allow for it. If you have a train to catch or an appointment to make, we will plan the timing with that in mind.

Cottenham Park and the Northern Roads

North of Coombe Lane, the roads climb gently towards Cottenham Park and the edge of Wimbledon. These are leafy streets with large houses and a small park of their own. Further west, Coombe and the A3 lie just beyond the area.

We cover all of these roads. For trips into Wimbledon Village, the route up through Cottenham Park and the Ridgway is usually quicker than the main roads.

Bushey Road and the A3

Bushey Road, the A298, runs east to west across the area, linking Wimbledon Chase with the A3 near Shannon Corner. It is the main route to the A3, and from there to Kingston, the M25 and beyond.

This makes Raynes Park a handy starting point for longer journeys. We run Heathrow taxis and Gatwick minicabs from every Raynes Park road, using the A3 and M25 where it makes sense. Big retail parks along the A3 at Shannon Corner also make it a common spot for shopping trips.

Parks and Open Spaces

Raynes Park has plenty of green space. Cannon Hill Common, to the south east, has woods, a large pond and open grass. Prince George's Playing Fields offer sports pitches and space for dog walks. Wimbledon Common is a short drive north.

We drop off and pick up at all of these. Our pet friendly taxi service is handy if you want to take your dog to a bigger park for a change.

Local Trips Around SW20

Most of our Raynes Park work is local.

  • Station runs to Raynes Park, Wimbledon Chase and Motspur Park.
  • School runs to local primary and secondary schools.
  • Trips to the Nelson Health Centre on Kingston Road and to St George's Hospital in Tooting.
  • Shopping trips to Shannon Corner, Kingston and Wimbledon.
  • Nights out in Wimbledon or Kingston, with a safe ride home.

Each journey has a fixed fare agreed when you book.

Families and Groups

Raynes Park is full of families. For school runs, our school run taxi service sets up regular term time pickups with child seats on request. For bigger groups, our 7 seater taxi and 8 seater minibus take up to eight passengers at once.

When the Trains Are Not Running

The line through Raynes Park is often closed for engineering works at weekends and bank holidays. Rail replacement buses add time and hassle, especially with bags or small children.

On those days, a cab is the simple answer. We can take you to Waterloo Station or any other London terminus, or straight to your final destination.

New Malden and Worcester Park Next Door

West of Raynes Park lies New Malden, with its busy High Street and well known Korean restaurants and shops. To the south is Worcester Park, which borders Cheam and has its own station on the line into Waterloo.

We cover both areas every day. Many Raynes Park customers book us for trips to New Malden for dinner, or down through Worcester Park to Cheam and Sutton.

Kingston Shopping and the Riverside

Kingston upon Thames is a short drive west along the A3 and Kingston Road. It has a big shopping centre, a busy market place and a lovely stretch of riverside with bars and restaurants.

A cab saves you the hunt for a parking space and the cost of a car park. We drop you near the shops or the riverside and pick you up later with your bags.

Commuters and Early Trains

Raynes Park is a commuter area, and the station is busy from early morning. When you have an early train, heavy bags, or the weather is awful, a short cab to the station is worth it.

We can also set up regular bookings for daily commutes, so the car is there at the same time every morning.

The Low Bridges on Coombe Lane

Raynes Park has a well known quirk. Coombe Lane passes under the railway close to the station, and the area around the bridges gets busy at peak times. Buses, cyclists and cars all squeeze through, and a delivery van can hold things up for minutes.

Our drivers know the alternatives, including Bushey Road and the roads through West Barnes. For an early train or an appointment, we will suggest a pickup time that leaves room for a short delay.

Neighbouring Areas We Cover

Raynes Park sits next to Wimbledon to the north east and Merton Park to the east. New Malden and Worcester Park are just to the west and south. Our areas we cover page lists every area we serve.

Why Use a Local Cab Firm?

Raynes Park has a few quirks. The low bridges on Coombe Lane, the level crossing at West Barnes, and the traffic around the station at rush hour. A local driver knows how to work around them.

We are based a short drive away in North Cheam. Our drivers hold Transport for London licences, every fare is fixed, and you can always speak to someone on the phone.
