A Garden Suburb Between Wimbledon and Morden

Merton Park is one of the quieter corners of SW19. Much of it was laid out in the late 1800s by John Innes, a merchant who planned a garden suburb with tree lined roads and generous houses. A lot of that survives today, and the heart of the area is a conservation area.

It feels peaceful, but it sits right between some very busy roads. Kingston Road runs along the north, Morden Road to the east, and the A24 and Morden town centre are just to the south. Our drivers know how to get in and out of the quiet streets without getting stuck on the main roads.

From our North Cheam office, Merton Park is typically about 4 miles away through Morden. Off peak, the drive takes around 15 to 20 minutes.

John Innes Park and Local Landmarks

John Innes Park is the green heart of the area, with formal gardens, a bowling green and a pond. It is a lovely place for a walk, and many local people use it every day.

St Mary's Church, with its old churchyard, stands on Church Path close by. The area also has several popular schools, including Rutlish School on Watery Lane.

We drop off and pick up around all of these. If you are visiting the park or the church, tell us which entrance you want and we will get you as close as the road allows.

Merton Park Tram Stop

The Merton Park tram stop sits on the line between Wimbledon and Croydon, close to Kingston Road. It is handy for local trips, but the tram does not reach everywhere, and it is not easy with heavy bags.

We often drive people to and from the tram stop in bad weather, late at night or with shopping. For longer trips, we go straight to where you need to be.

Morden and the Northern Line

Morden town centre is just to the south. It is the end of the Northern line, so lots of Merton Park residents use Morden station to get into central London. It also has a large bus station and shops along London Road.

Morden Hall Park, a National Trust site with meadows, the River Wandle and an old snuff mill, is a short drive east. It is a great spot for a family day out, and we drop off and pick up at the main entrance.

Hospital and Health Trips

The Nelson Health Centre on Kingston Road, close to the edge of Merton Park, offers local health services. St George's Hospital in Tooting and St Helier Hospital in Carshalton are both a short drive away.

Medical trips can be stressful. Our drivers are patient, help with mobility aids if needed, and will wait or return at a set time. Tell us when you book.

School Runs Around Merton Park

There are many schools in and around Merton Park, and the roads near them get very busy at drop-off and pickup times. Some roads in the borough have timed School Street closures.

Our school run taxi service sets up regular term time journeys with TfL licensed drivers and child seats on request. Drivers drop at the nearest safe and legal spot.

Local Journeys Across SW19

Most of our Merton Park work is local.

  • Trips to Wimbledon town centre and the station for shopping or trains.
  • Runs to Morden station for the Northern line.
  • Supermarket shops at the big stores nearby.
  • Visits to friends and family across Merton and Sutton.
  • Evenings out in Wimbledon, with a safe ride home.

Each trip has a fixed fare agreed when you book.

Airports and Stations

Merton Park is well placed for trips further afield. We run Heathrow taxis, Gatwick minicabs and Luton Airport transfers from every Merton Park road. For rail trips, we drive you to any London terminus, such as Euston Station.

Driving in the Conservation Area

The roads in the Merton Park conservation area are quiet, but some are narrow, with parked cars on both sides and plenty of speed humps. A driver who rushes here is no help to anyone.

Our drivers take these streets gently. They know where to wait without blocking a driveway and how to turn around safely in the quieter roads. If your house is hard to find or has a tricky driveway, tell us when you book and we will pass the details on.

Older Residents and Accessible Trips

Merton Park has many long term residents, some of whom no longer drive. A reliable local cab is a lifeline for shopping, appointments and seeing friends.

Our drivers help with bags and folding wheelchairs and will not rush anyone. For regular trips, such as a weekly shop or a hospital visit, we can set up repeat bookings so you do not need to call each time.

Commuting into Wimbledon

Many Merton Park residents work in Wimbledon, a short ride north. On days when the tram is busy or the weather is bad, a cab is a simple alternative. We can set up regular morning and evening runs at a fixed fare.

Kingston Road and Morden Road Junctions

The edges of Merton Park are where the traffic is. Kingston Road can queue back towards South Wimbledon in the morning, and the junction where Morden Road meets the A24 near Morden station is busy most of the day.

Drivers who know the area slip in and out through the quieter avenues instead of sitting in the queues. If you have a train or an appointment, tell us the time you need to arrive and we will set a pickup time that allows for the junctions.

Neighbouring Areas We Cover

Why Merton Park Customers Choose Us

We are a short drive away, which helps with arrival times. Our drivers know the area, from the tight corners in the conservation area to the busy junction at Morden. Every driver holds a Transport for London licence, and every trip has a fixed fare.

Most of all, we are easy to reach. Call the office and you speak to a person, not a recorded menu. If your plans change, we can adjust quickly.

Getting Around Without a Car

Many households in Merton Park manage without a car or with just one. The tram, buses and the Northern line cover a lot of journeys. A pre-booked cab fills the gaps, such as heavy shopping, late nights or trips where public transport means two or three changes.

It can work out cheaper than running a second car, once you count insurance, parking permits and maintenance.
